The global crisis gives full meaning to the issue of the conference organised by the CRDH of the University of Paris II and the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights. How can we make the fundamental rights of all individuals and all peoples effective? Alongside the Millennium Development Goals, which were not achieved, a qualitative human rights approach should be a priority for the international community.
The conference brought together academics and young researchers, experts and international civil servants, with diplomats and NGO representatives, from a multidisciplinary perspective. It highlighted the potentialities of the Draft Declaration on the Rights of People in Extreme Poverty adopted by the Sub-Commission on Human Rights in 2006 at its last session. On this basis, it is up to States, internally and internationally, to get mobilised so as to implement all rights guaranteed, civil and political ones, as well as economic, social and cultural ones, by making them fully opposable and justiciable.
