International Human Rights Conventions binding Greece

Author(s): directors: Ch. Bourlogiannis-Vrailas, E. Petroula

The internationalisation of human rights during the previous century is demonstrated by the plethora of international instruments -resolutions, declarations, and Conventions- related to their protection. In fact, the latter are legally binding and they contain obligations on the States having them ratified. This volume, updated until 10.4.2002, contains all international legally binding instruments on the protection of human rights, ratified by Greece. In addition, in order for the landscape of international rules existing in the Greek legal order to be complete, identifying eventual reservations or declarations made by Greece was also considered mandatory. The collected Conventions have been divided into seven wider thematic sections: a) general Conventions, b) Conventions on the rights of vulnerable groups, c) Conventions related to international crimes, d) Conventions related to the respect of human rights in the context of the administration of justice, e) Conventions on the freedom of movement, f) Conventions on the protection of human rights against threats emanating from technological and scientific developments, and g) Conventions guaranteeing social rights. Each thematic section contains a brief overview of the Convention, an indicative bibliography, as well as useful webpages.
