This book publishes the contributions of the Conference on “Corruption and how to tackle it” organised by the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR), and which took place on 28 February 2013 in Athens (Athens Plaza Hotel, Syntagma Square).
In the first part of the Conference on “The legal framework of the problem of corruption”, which was moderated by L.-A. Sicilianos, includes the contributions of A. Yotopoulos-Marangopoulos (Corruption: A bilateral crime based on the principle that enrichment is the first value), A. Bredimas (International arrangements to combat corruption) and M. Margaritis (Greek criminal law and jurisprudence). In the second part of the Conference on “Competent institutions for dealing with the problem of corruption”, which was coordinated by I. Tentes and I. Adamopoulos, one may find the contributions of G. Stavropoulos (Corruption and public servants – Administrative and judicial aspects), I. Karavokyri (The role of the Court of Auditors in the fight against corruption), D. Gourgouraki (Corruption and personal data) and L. Rakintzi (The role of the Inspector General of Public Administration). The third part of the Conference on “Social implications of the problem of corruption”, coordinated by K. Menoudakos and I. Adamopoulos, includes the contributions of V. Tsevrenis (Rules of deontological ethics and public administration: The search for a self-evident convergence), G. Arsenis (Political power and corruption), A. Giannitsis (Corruption and economic crisis), D. Kremastinou (Corruption and health) and G. Sourlas (Transparency as a condition of democracy). The conclusions of the Conference were drawn by G. Stavropoulos.
The book is accompanied by a rich appendix of international and national regulations regarding corruption (UN Convention against Corruption, Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials, Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, Council of Europe Civil Law Convention on Corruption, Anti-Bribery Convention involving EU Officials, Proceedings of the General Secretariat for Transparency and Human Rights).
