THE FIRST EVENT IN GREECE ON: “GREVIO’S BASELINE EVALUATION REPORT ON GREECE”

26 Mar 2024

The Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR) organises on 26 March 2024 at 17:00 the very first event in Greece on the GREVIO’s Baseline Evaluation Report on Greece!

GREVIO (Group of Experts of the Council of Europe on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence) is the independent body of Experts, mandated to monitor compliance with the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence), which entered into force for Greece, in 2018.

During Greece’s evaluation by GREVIO, a considerable number of national institutions and civil society organisations participated in the procedure and it concluded in the publication of the Report on 14 November 2023. The Baseline Evaluation Report analyses in depth the situation in Greece, formulates its observations and addresses recommendations to national authorities.

These are highly important issues that unfortunately have not been disseminated yet in Greek society. The importance of a fruitful dialogue is being reasserted on a daily basis and has been highlighted among others by the European Court of Human Rights in its very recent judgment on the Χ v. Greece case, being the first one condemning Greece in a gender-based violence case.

The event will focus on issues which according to GREVIO require emergent action, especially with regard to support and protection of victims of gender-based violence and procedural safeguards

You may find hereby the event’s program and we invite you all to participate!

A small reception will be held.
