THE FIRST EVENT IN GREECE ON: “GREVIO’S BASELINE EVALUATION REPORT ON GREECE”

26 Mar 2024

The Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR) is organizing the first event in Greece dedicated to GREVIO’s Baseline Evaluation Report on Greece! The event will take place on 26 March 2024 at 17:00.

GREVIO (Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence) is the independent body tasked with monitoring compliance with the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence), which came into force in Greece in 2018.

As part of Greece’s evaluation by GREVIO, a significant number of national institutions and civil society organizations participated in the process, which culminated in the publication of the Report on 14 November 2023. The Baseline Evaluation Report provides an in-depth analysis of the situation in Greece, offering key observations and recommendations to national authorities.

These issues are of paramount importance, still they have not yet been widely disseminated within Greek society. The need for constructive dialogue on these matters is increasingly urgent and has been underscored by recent rulings, such as the European Court of Human Rights’ judgment in the Χ v. Greece case, which marked the first condemnation of Greece in a gender-based violence case.

The event will focus on issues identified by GREVIO as requiring immediate attention, particularly regarding the support and protection of victims of gender-based violence, as well as procedural safeguards.

Please find the event program here, and we warmly invite you all to participate!

A small reception will follow the event.
