The School of Law at the University of Athens, in collaboration with the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR), successfully organized a two-day conference on December 12 and 13, 2024, titled “50 Years of the ECHR: Interactions with Various Branches of Greek Law”. The conference, held in Greek, took place at the “Alkis Argyriadis” Amphitheater, in the Central Building of the University of Athens.
For the first time, 42 distinguished speakers, academics, senior judges, professors of law schools, international experts and lawyers discussed and analysed the interplay between the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and various branches of the Greek legal order.
On the first day of the conference, in-depth discussions were held on the historical, philosophical and sociological foundations of the Convention. The impact of the ECHR on various branches of civil law, civil procedure, labour and commercial law, criminal law and criminal procedure as well as penitentiary law was then examined. On the second day of the conference, the scientific discussion focused on the relationship between the ECHR and public law as well as the Convention’s influence beyond national law, with emphasis on EU law, private international law and other branches of international law.
The MFHR extends its sincere gratitude to all students and professionals in the legal field for their attendance and active participation. Their contributions were instrumental in fostering a particularly lively scientific discussion, which will soon be documented in written form.
