Press Releases,

Today, on the 18th of November, it is the European Day for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. Most cases of sexual exploitation and abuse of children are caused by persons close to them, by persons known, trusted and admired by the children.

The Council of Europe highlights the importance not to alter children’s “circle of trust”, improving both the legal framework on protection and the relevant social welfare services.

Recent law no. 4855/2021 toughened penalties for the crimes of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of minors and strengthened the relevant procedural safeguards.

The Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR) calls upon the competent State authorities to actually and effectively respond to such phenomena and in particular to ensure the full functioning of the “Children’s Home”.

The MFHR will host a relevant event on 10 December, on International Human Rights Day.
