It is a pleasure to announce that on 28 June 2022, the closing ceremony of the academic year of Elementary School, Secondary School and High School of the Special Detention Center for Juveniles of Avlona took place, in the presence of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Eleftherios Oikonomou, as well as MEPs, Secretary-Generals of various Ministries and representatives of political parties and other governmental institutions.

During the said ceremony, the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights conferred, for the 15^th consecutive year, awards to pupils who stood out for their behavior, their regular attendance and their performance. The awards were established by the dearly departed President of the MFHR Alice Yotopoulos-Marangopoulos, and since then they are conferred on each academic year, in memoriam of her son Nick.

We congratulate all pupils for their efforts and we thank the Directorship, especially Mr. Petros Damianos, the teachers, the guardians and the volunteers for their devotion in fulfilling their mission.

In a period when human rights protection confronts serious challenges, stigmatised by war, migration and sanitary crises, retrogression with regard to long asserted human rights, it is indeed a sign of optimism to celebrate each action in favor of students’ fight in acquiring knowledge and fulfilling their right to education.
