It is a pleasure to announce that on 28 June 2022, the closing ceremony of the academic year of Elementary School, Secondary School and High School of the Special Detention Center for Juveniles of Avlona took place, in the presence of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Eleftherios Oikonomou, as well as MEPs, Secretary-Generals of various Ministries and representatives of political parties and other governmental institutions.
During the ceremony, the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights conferred, for the 15th consecutive year, awards to students who stood out for their behavior, regular attendance and performance. The awards were established by the dearly departed President of the MFHR, Alice Yotopoulos-Marangopoulos, and, since then, they have been conferred on a yearly basis, in memoriam of her son, Nick.
We would like to congratulate all students for their efforts and thank the Directorship, especially Mr. Petros Damianos, the teachers, the guardians and the volunteers for their devotion in fulfilling their mission.
In such challenging times for the protection of human rights, times plagued by war, migration and sanitation crises, and retrogression of long asserted human rights, it is truly beautiful to celebrate each and every act that supports students’ fight to acquire knowledge and fulfil their right to education.
The MFHR congratulates and stands by all students.
