ARMENIA V. AZERBAIJAN – INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE

From Monday 15 April until today, Friday 19 April 2024, the oral proceedings on the preliminary objections in the case Application of the International Convention against All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Armenia v. Azerbaijan) took place, before the International Court of Justice. The case concerns widespread human rights violations of Armenians and persons of Armenian origin since the mid-1990s and afterwards, with an emphasis on the 44-day conflict in 2020 and the subsequent events taking place in the Nagorno Karabakh enclave up until today.

On Monday 15 April 2024, during the first round of argument, Azerbaijan challenged the jurisdiction of the ICJ and the admissibility of Armenia’s arguments.

On Tuesday 16 April 2024, the legal team of Armenia, in which Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law of the NKUA, and Vice President of the MFHR, Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, as well as Dr. Konstantinos Salonidis participate, presented its arguments.
