100 YEARS SINCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE HAGUE ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL LAW

The Vice President of the MFHR, Professor Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, attended the celebration of the 100th anniversary since the establishment of the Hague Academy of International Law, as well as the Conference organised by the Academy on the "Humanization of International Law", on 24-26 May 2023.

The 100th anniversary since the establishment of the Hague Academy of International Law (Académie de droit international de la Haye), the leading academic institute for public and private international law, was celebrated on 24-26 May 2023, with particular prompt. Along with the formal ceremony, in which the President of the International Court of Justice Joan E. Donoghue participated, the Academy organised a Conference on the “Humanization of International Law”. In this way, the Hague Academy of International Law sends the message that under the current difficult circumstances and the multiple crises that Europe and the world are facing, International Law shall give prominence to the protection of human value and human rights, as well as to effectively tackle climate change. Professor Linos-Alexader Sicilianos, member of the Academy’s Curratorium and Vice President of the MFHR, highlighted in his intervention the need to focus on democratic values, the rule of law and the effective human rights protection.
